Feminism: A Revolt Against Creation (Series: The Embrace of Exile | Part 1)

The church in the West is fighting on many fronts: abortion, gender-confusion ideologies, various forms of sexual immorality, divorce, pornography, and more. Yet it seems we keep fighting, but the problems only multiply. And these issues aren't just "out there" in the world—they're very much present inside our churches.

What we're experiencing today resembles the Hydra myth from Greek mythology. In the myth, one of the Twelve Labours of Heracles (known as Hercules in Roman tradition) was to slay the Lernaean Hydra, a terrifying creature that lived in a swamp near the town of Lerna. The Hydra was a massive serpent-like monster with many heads. Whenever one head was cut off, two more would grow back in its place. Worse still, one head was immortal and could not be killed by ordinary means.

When Heracles first attacked the beast, he did what any warrior would do: he swung his sword and chopped off heads. But to his surprise, every time a head fell, two new ones immediately sprouted from the same neck. Cutting off heads only made the creature stronger. Realizing brute force alone wouldn't work, Heracles called on his nephew Iolaus, who had accompanied him. Together they devised a new strategy: each time Heracles severed a head, Iolaus would immediately press a burning torch to the neck stump. The fire cauterized the wound, destroying the flesh at its root so no new heads could grow back. The strategy succeeded, and they eventually destroyed the monster, burying the immortal head under a rock.

This story shows that the Hydra could not be defeated by repeatedly striking its visible heads; the regenerating neck had to be destroyed, or the problem would only multiply. I believe our current situation is similar. We keep battling the issues I mentioned earlier, but the problems grow bigger and bigger. So it's time not only to fight bravely and hard, but to fight smart.

At the foundation of all these battles lies a greater one. There's a "neck" that needs to be cauterized; otherwise, the problems will always return twice as strong. And the neck of this multi-headed monster we've been fighting is feminism.

This is the central claim we will unpack throughout this series. In the posts that follow, I will demonstrate how feminism necessarily produces the very troubles we've been battling—war on motherhood, abortion as its logical fruit, destruction of the family, erosion in the church, the weakening of both sexes, and ultimately the slide into gender confusion. Feminism is not a side issue; it is the root.

Many people today, including Christians, think feminism is a correction of injustice. But the reality is that it's a rejection of God's design for men, women, and the family. At its root, feminism promotes an egalitarian conception of humanity that's more rooted in secularism than in biblical Christianity. Egalitarianism asserts that men and women are equal in every single way. "Christian egalitarianism" tries to circumvent the Bible's clear teaching on differences between men and women by pointing to cultural expectations of the time, the alleged internal bias of the biblical authors, and offering interpretations that reverse the plain meaning of the text and contradict its historical reading.

From the very beginning, the Bible is clear that God created men and women equal in value before Him—both made in His image and likeness—but they are also distinctively different. God gave men and women specific roles. To Adam was given a position of authority and headship, while to Eve was given the position of submissive helper. These roles are not accidental; they are the natural outcome of God's design and purpose for each. Men and women are ontologically different; they are not the same. And for this reason, they are called to be faithful in distinctive ways.

In Genesis 3, the first woman, Eve, was deceived by the serpent into doubting God’s word—“Did God really say?” She and Adam chose autonomy over obedience, eating from the forbidden tree. That act was no small thing; it was a rejection of God’s authority and design. As a result, sin entered the world, and the harmony of creation fractured—between humanity and God, between man and woman, and even within their own hearts. In the curse that followed, God declared that the woman’s desire would be “for” her husband—meaning a distortion of order, a struggle over leadership—and he would rule over her. What had been designed as a joyful, complementary partnership became marked by tension, conflict, and power struggles. The fall did not erase God’s design, but it twisted it, and the curse describes that painful distortion.

However, feminism is not the cause of this disorder and hostility toward God's design; sin is the cause. But feminism institutionalizes that hostility. Feminism is the happy—or perhaps, looking at many feminists, we should say angry—embrace of the curse of Eden. Embracing the curse means rejecting God's design and God as Designer. At its core, feminism prioritizes autonomy over submission to God. That's why feminism is utterly incompatible with Christianity. And that's why feminism is the neck of the Hydra we need to kill.

Christianity is not only about the "salvation" of souls after death; it's about Jesus Christ re-ordering creation according to God's good design. The fruit of true Christianity is restoring men and women to their original design, purpose, and roles. So feminism and Christianity are antagonists.

That's why, if you are a true Christian, you must reject feminism in all its expressions. You need to fight against all feminist influences in your life, your family, your church, and society as a whole. Feminism destroys everything because it seeks to destroy the foundations of creation: submission to God, God's design for humanity, and the most basic sphere of society—the family.

We need men of courage and intelligence to fight this battle if we're going to see any meaningful change in our time. And we need women who are strong and courageous to stand firm against this tidal wave, pursuing godliness and virtuous biblical womanhood with unwavering resolve. May God be gracious to us and raise up these men and women.
