Gender Identity and the Tower of Babel

One of the great discussions of our time is on the matter of gender identity. According to what some people call "gender ideology," the individual is responsible for constructing his/her identity, including the choice of gender. This ideology, along with other contemporary ideologies, preaches a concept of extreme "free will" in which each of us should be sovereign over our own realities. In a society in which, for decades, parents, schools and media taught children they could be whatever they want, it shouldn't surprise us when these same children decide later in life they want to adopt a different "gender identity."

This type of ideology preaches that it is necessary to free ourselves of all the constraints that prevent us from being who we really are (or who we want to be). Advances in technology, medicine and science foster the feeling that this is a possible thing. And beyond that, we have a culture that is totally customized for each individual, or so they want us to believe. It's not for no reason that the word "empowerment" is one of the favourites out there, and in our days, it is even the mission of some large companies to "empower individuals" to do X, Y or Z.

The so-called "gender ideology" is not about sex but is just another arm of this broader ideology of liberating the individual from all oppression, including their own nature. It would be repetitive and even obvious to say here once again that God created us inescapably male and female, which is verifiable not only through (real) science but through simple observation of the real world. And the possible exceptions that can be pointed out only confirm the rule.

Humans can create robust philosophical systems, change language, change laws and even change their bodies to support this new "reality" - the new normal. But the truth is that reality is inescapable. There is a fundamental error in this whole worldview, which is to believe that human beings could, through science, achieve some form of transcendence and become like God in his creative power. We are indeed beings created in the image of God, yet infinitely inferior to Him and incapable of creating ex-nihilo (out of nothing). Everything we create is made from something created.

Hence, the current fixation on the virtual and the constant attempt to convince the population that the virtual can be as good and as real as reality itself. The "virtual" seems to be the possibility of actually creating a "reality" out of nothing, which no longer follows the rules of the real world (dictated by God). But which respects - unlike nature - the rules created by megalomaniac humans who want to be like God. This is the new tower of Babel being erected. And we already know the end of that story.

Our society has embarked on this madness that since we cannot beat God in this reality, then we will leave reality and build our own. And to do that, a redefinition of what it means to be human is necessary, making this separation of the body and the essence of being. But what God has joined together, no one can separate. And so the destruction of one will invariably lead to the destruction of the other.

That's why this "gender ideology" and all its sister ideologies may seem like good paths to follow, but in the end, they are paths that will lead to death.
