Abortion, Murder and the Gospel

Abortion has been a debated topic for decades, but it has become increasingly important in the last few years as some have transformed abortion into a political flag. The legalization of abortion became, for many, a matter of women's rights, freedom, health care and religious liberty.
Like many other topics, we have many people on both extremes of the conversation and a not small group somewhere in the middle that thinks the center is always the wisest place to be.
Well, in this case, the middle is not good. This is the type of issue that we Christians should be on the extreme that calls it by what it is: murder. And even more than that, we should be on the extreme that understands that this topic is not even debatable. Abortion needs to be put in the category it belongs to; it's unthinkable and unacceptable as slavery, nazism or any other dehumanizing act or philosophy.
Apostle Paul wrote: "Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them (Eph 5:11)" So, if you are a child of light, you not just don't take part in the works of darkness, but you expose them. And abortion is a work of darkness and ought to be exposed.
We - Christians - are called to be the light of the world, and it's time for many Christians to abandon this passive "spirit" and start engaging with mind, heart and strength in the work of exposing the evil around them. It's time to take the lamp out from under the basket.
Of course, we want to live in a society that protects human life and stands for basic truth, but exposing the darkness is not just crucial from a socio-political standpoint. We are obscuring our gospel proclamation when we don't call sin by what it is. Before anyone can come to "saving faith" in Jesus Christ, it's necessary that our message clearly portrays the sinfulness of men and the necessity of repentance. And if we can't be clear about something as clear as the murder of unborn babies, what else can we be clear about?
The times we're living in are so dark that the murder of babies is not just something people do in secret and shame, but it has become a sign of power and virtue for many. So, Let Your Light Shine, Christian.
