Hello, my name is Cayman Bettig, and I have now been in Calgary for just over two years with my wonderful wife, Nikki. During this time, we have also been blessed to become parents to our son, Edison.

Having grown up in a Christian family that brought me to church every Sunday and placed me in a Christian school, I was incredibly privileged to have spent many years of my life learning about God and enjoying the Christian community around me.

But over the following years, I was made aware of how wrong I was to approach faith as if it were simply a matter of knowledge. God confronted me through the preaching at the church I was attending and through several important conversations with my wife.

For the first time, my eyes were opened to the true weight of my sin and the great divide that separated me from God. What was more frightening was the realization that no matter the books, articles, and conversations I had had learning about God, it was not enough and could never be enough to bridge that rift.

Which is why I am so thankful to Knox Baptist Church, where the people and the preaching remind me each and every week that salvation is by Christ’s blood alone. That I don’t have to prove anything to God, but can rest in his redemptive love that reconciles sinners like me with One so holy and perfect as him. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

As a deacon in training at Knox, I have the privilege of serving alongside so many brothers and sisters in Christ who labour each and every week together to see God’s name exemplified and glorified in our church.

I am especially grateful to the men who are helping serve the church as deacons and elders. These men have a heart for Christ that overflows through to me, and I’m sure to the rest of the congregation. Their godly wisdom and Biblical knowledge have been a great help to me in my own faith journey, but what’s more is that I have been personally blessed to see them grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ over these past couple of years.

It is amazing to see God working in our church, and I can’t wait to see what he has in store next!

"May the God of endurance and encouragement grant ‘us’ to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together ‘we’ may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." - Romans 15:5-6
