Heather Ward - Baptism Testimony

Hi, my name is Heather Ward, and I'm so grateful to be part of Knox Baptist Church.

I moved to Calgary 10 years ago from Edmonton. Before that, I spent most of my life on my reserve in Maskwacis, Alberta. I first learned about Jesus when I was around 8 years old, through my late mom, who brought me to church. From that young age, I always believed in Jesus, but I wasn't truly committed to Him.

Moving to Calgary was a leap of faith and a blessing in disguise. I came here with my two young children, Tierra and TJ, and little more than the clothes on our backs. I had struggled with alcohol addiction for much of my life, and I'd made many poor choices. Yet, even then, there was a spark of Jesus in my heart, and I leaned on Him in our hardest times.

Within a year of arriving in Calgary, I left an unhealthy relationship, went back to school, graduated, and found a job two months later. I began living for my children, and I truly believe God was watching over us.

In 2018, I decided to pursue sobriety and return to church. In 2020, I bought my first Bible, and though my journey has had ups and downs, I kept praying for a better life. By God's grace, I finally became sober in 2021, and that same year, I had the joy of welcoming my first grandson.

This December 28 will mark three years of sobriety. I'm so thankful for His patience, grace, and nearness in every season of my life.

Today, I'm getting baptized to declare that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.
